What Is Man's Chief End?

Man's chief end is to glorify God, [a] and to enjoy Him for ever. [b]
[a]. Ps. 86:9; Isa. 60:21; Rom. 11:36; I Cor. 6:20; 10:31; Rev. 4:11
[b]. Ps. 16:5-11; 144:15; Isa. 12:2; Luke 2:10; Phil. 4:4; Rev. 21:3-4
THE WESTMINSTER SHORTER CATECHISM
Every new believer has been set apart by God, separated unto God to be transformed into the likeness of His Son, Jesus Christ. In this sense, every believer is a saint- a person separated from his old sinful way of life and set apart by God to increasingly glorify God as his life is transformed! For this night, in particular, I wanted to take time to express my thanks to my Savior Jesus Christ for:

1. The Blood of Jesus! His blood paid for my sins, once and for all! His blood covers me everyday and protects me from the enemy!

2. The Holy Spirit! He is my Teacher, Counselor, Friend, Comforter, Helper, and Guide.

3, And, of course, my Father God! He is the One Who drew me unto Him in the first place! He loves me with an everlasting love and He has me tatooed in the palm of His hand! He hears my every cry and He keeps every tear that I cry! He even sings over me! Shhhhh, if I listen I think I can hear Him now! Thank You, Father God, for sending Your Son to me! Thank You for loving me so much! I love You, too!!!

HAPPY Halloween??? Should Christians "Celebrate"??

>> Tuesday, October 27, 2009

Halloween! Happy??? Harvest Festivals? Are Churches doing anything wrong by having "Harvest Festivals" on Halloween night in order to give kids an alternative? I think so! Watch this video with an open mind and heart to receive the message that I feel every Christian needs to hear! And after that, watch this episode with Perry Stone about Satan's Counterfeit Feasts and the Blood of Jesus! Wow! Satan is so deceptive, but Jesus is so amazing!!!!

Our Daily Bread~ Scripture Memory This Week

Photobucket

In our Daily Bread studies (Bible), we like to challenge ourselves to memorize Scripture verses that pertain to what we are studying. Right now, we are studying about our hearts. Along with this, we are reading A Weed with an Ill Name. Wow, what a great book! The Lord is revealing to us many things about ourselves. Some are not too pleasant, but thanks be to God, He is working in us to change us to be more like Him! So, for this week, our Scriptures are as follows:

Deuteronomy 6:5-6

Deuteronomy 30:14

Psalm 119:11

1 Samuel 16:7b

1 Chronicles 28:9

Jeremiah 17:9-10

Proverbs 4:23

Deuteronomy 11:16

1 John 3:21

2 Chronicles 16:9a

Now, I must say, that this list seems to be quite long, but we have been going over them for a few weeks already. So, this week we are focusing on MEMORIZING them!! :)

5 Things I Am Thankful For:

1. My loving Savior for never leaving me. Where would I be without Him?
2. My husband for loving me even when I am unlovable.
3. My kids for loving me and forgiving me when I am not so loving towards them.
4. My husband's job.
5. A roof over our heads and food in the fridge.

Thank you, Lord!

A New Day ~ A New Beginning!

>> Tuesday, October 20, 2009

How I love new days! New beginnings, new chances to grow in God's grace. I am reminded of my Savior's love for me when I think on the Cross. What He endured for me to save me from the dominion of sin, to give me the power over sin, and to show my family God's grace in action. My family knows that I am not perfect, but as Paul said in 1 Timothy 1:15, "Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the foremost." And John Newton, the writer of the well-loved song, "Amazing Grace", was known to say, "My memory is nearly gone, but I remember two things: that I am a great sinner, and that Christ is a great Savior."* I can say a hearty, "Amen!" No matter how badly I mess up, Christ is always ready to forgive and gracefully bring me back. And I am thankful for a forgiving family! If it weren't for God working in their hearts, and helping them to forgive, as well, I don't know how I could face them. But God's grace shows itself in all of us. What an awesome God we serve!!

I Am Not There Yet!

My pursuit for God's Holiness seems to be so unreachable at times! Today was one of those days! But thanks to God's unchanging grace and forgiveness, I am still on the path! It's a very narrow path, but I'm still on it. With His loving arms, He reaches out to bring me back on the path that He has me on. Just as the psalmist says, "Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me." Well, His rod and His staff comforts me now. They may not be comfortable, but they do give me comfort, knowing that it is He who leads me!! Thank You, Jesus for bringing me back to Your path!!! Amen!!

My Pursuit!

>> Sunday, October 18, 2009

I've been reading the book The Pursuit of Holiness by Jerry Bridges. How unsettling it is to notice how far I have come in my walk with the Lord, but also how far I need to go!! My family and I have made big steps in our walk toward holiness, changing a lot of viewing choices and activities that lead to nowhere. It has actually been the best decisions we have made. We have noticed big changes in ourselves and how we view the world. But as I read this awesome book and realize that, even though I have come so far, my heart is still deceitful and sin still rules me. I have been rescued from sin's dominion in my life, but I still allow sin to rule me!! I still deal with major sins in my life. Jerry Bridges also wrote a book called Respectable Sins, and in it he shows us how, as Christians we tolerate so many "respectable" sins in our lives while being intolerant of the world's Big Sins. Does God just overlook our "little" sins while He should be punishing the world for their "big" sins? I'm learning that God looks at my problem with anger and criticism just as He looks at those "big sins". I'm thankful that I serve a Loving God that is patient with me. May He grant me grace to choose Holiness over the little things that make me angry. May He grant me grace to choose Holiness when I want to be critical of someone!! This pursuit is HARD, but I want it, even if it kills me!!

My New Blog~ Ramblings About Myself

Welcome to those who are here to check out my blog. Hopefully you will be blessed by the Lord as you read my ramblings. I love to write about the Lord and what He is showing me in His Word. I have grown a lot in the Lord in the last few years, so I love to share what I learn and experience in my walk. Sometimes the experience is not so great because I have so much to learn!! Of course, I have not reached the point of "perfection", but who has? But, I "forget what lies behind and strain forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize to which God in Christ Jesus is calling me. (Philippians 3:13-14) So, as I press on, may God bless everyone who reads of my adventures in my walk.

Saint Shellie
